Sex Differences in Communication Affect Public Discussion

Human communication capabilities constrain public discussion. Women’s and men’s communication capabilities have evolved and developed in a sex-differentiated environment. Important, sex-differentiated environmental factors in both evolutionary and developmental time include bodily relations to offspring, hypergamy and polygyny, kin grouping, and social reproductive values. These environmental factors have produced well-documented human female communicative superiority and apparently universal social norms favoring the relative disposability of men. Sex differences in communication help to account for lack of publicly expressed concern about the highly disproportionate imprisonment of men.
