Within its extraordinary Bentham collection, University College London holds about a thousand manuscript folios concerning punishment. Jeremy Bentham apparently authored these folios, which are written in various hands. Specific estimates of the number of folios on punishment depends on the criteria for classifying the folios. University College London’s Bentham Project in September, 2010, launched Transcribe Bentham, an online collaborative project to transcribe digital images of Bentham manuscript folios. Over time this pioneering project could make widely available much more knowledge about Bentham’s manuscripts.
